This summer we’ve all praised our favorite summer campaigns for various reasons here on the blog. From the Evian babies, to Coleman camping products, and of course Little Debbie (we’re anxiously awaiting those delectable little muffins). But I have to say that Kodak’s “Brightside Tour” with the Compliment Guys is easily my favorite. They’re two Purdue University students who started the good karma at their school, every Wednesday from 12:30 to 2:30 pm, rain or shine.
Word to Kodak for their subtlety in this whole campaign. When you go to the Brightside Tour website it takes some work to find Kodak or their logo anywhere. They make it not about them at all, and I dig that. Even the RV the guys get for their tour from New Orleans to Rochester, NY has just a small Kodak logo that is far from the center of attention. All I see them handing out is a bright yellow sticker that reads “It’s time to smile”.
These two are everywhere. Do a quick search on YouTube and you’ll find them on the Today show and even the Bob and Tom radio program. Kodak has taken a modest approach to social media using only Twitter, YouTube, and the Brightside Tour blog, but surprisingly nothing Facebook.
This is a overly simple idea that has great after-effects and some cheap w.o.m. for Kodak. Although they don’t make a camera that I have a use for it puts their brand in a positive and memorable light. This morning I almost told the friendly girl at the Caribou Coffee drive-up that she has a beautiful smile, well maybe tomorrow! So kudos to Kodak and the Compliment Guys on a job well done!

Great writing Spencer in all your blogs. Never knew you had that in you also. Good job with your internship.
Tell the girl she has a beautiful smile! She might not let you know it, but I'm sure you'll make her day.
