Maybe … just maybe our friends at Iowa-based CPA firm Denman & Company have come up with one of the most brilliant marketing strategies of all time. Do you think it’s possible that they decided to design (and I use that word loosely) a website to make people think:
“Hey, based on the look of their website, this CPA firm sure looks like they know how to save money! Maybe I should call them.”
Sadly, I don’t think so.
We talk regularly on this blog about how your website is one of the most important marketing tools you have. It’s often the first impression someone has of your company. Just as a well designed website can make you look bigger than you are, a poorly designed site can make you look smaller and less professional. Denman & Company isn’t some small, struggling CPA firm. They’re one of the larger independent CPA firms in Iowa. Doesn’t look like it, huh? Dive deeper into the site and it even gets worse. Bad design. Bad stock photography. Bad navigation. Bad copywriting. Get this … copy from the second paragraph of the home page:
“We realize our most important product is prompt and effective service of the highest quality delivered with the personal involvement of our partners and most experienced professionals. All our efforts are directed toward achieving these client service goals.”
Sounds like it came from an automatic mission statement generator!
Does this guy inspire that good will feeling you’re looking for?
I don’t think he even works there. How much did they pay for his frowning mug?
If your website looks like this …

or if you happen to be working at Denman and you’re reading this, there’s hope. Give us a call and we can help you out!
In the meantime, congrats to Denman and Company, your website is our worst of the week.
