Vote to Help Kids Worldwide Help Others

by Jess Held on November 17, 2009

This morning I received an email from Talia Leman, an eighth grader in Iowa who is working hard to share her cause through social media efforts. The call to action in her email was to go to http://www.tinyurl.com/voteanne and vote so that her organization may win a $25,000 grant as well as share this information with others to support the cause.

Talia’s cause and her push to communicate through social media outlets sparked interest with the AdMavericks and we wanted to learn more.

When she was only 10, she saw television clips of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and decided to help. She rallied other kids and started a movement to trick-or-treat at Halloween for coins for hurricane victims.

The movement caught public attention and soon Talia made it on the “Today” show and the campaign raised more than $10 million! She then organized a program called RandomKid with the help of collaborator, Anne Ginther to help kids world wide help others. This site literally provides young people with everything they need to launch projects that make a measurable difference for those that need it most. http://www.randomkid.org/

The New York Times wrote about Talia and her cause last year as well. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/16/opinion/16kristof.html

RandomKid is up for a $25,000 grant through L’Oreal. She only has 10 days to get 25,000 people to VOTE ONCE. http://www.tinyurl.com/voteanne

The AdMavericks salute you, Talia.  It is amazing to see young people work so hard for the sake of others. Help us support Tahlia also by blogging, tweeting, retweeting and forwarding this information to your friends and contacts!
