Here's a Holla for Dwolla

by Josh Fleming on December 21, 2009

Building brand advocates within the first few weeks of being a live Web site is unheard of. Until now. Let me introduce you to Dwolla. I first heard about Dwolla while I was at Highlight Midwest and ever since then I’ve been impressed by what I’ve seen. The start up company’s business model might be one of the strongest I’ve seen sprout out of Iowa since Smarty Pig made the color pink cool. If you aren’t familiar with Dwolla you need to be because they are getting a ton of well deserved press:

Here they are in the Des Moines Register
Here they are in Juice
Interview on Silicon Prairie News

Maverick and I had the pleasure of meeting with Greg Anfinson of Dwolla a few weeks ago. What struck us most was not the business ideas or the passion they had for the company, rather it was his ability to listen. You know we’re never short on opinions, and we shared those opinions with Anfinson. Whether he takes us up on those ideas or suggestions isn’t the point here. His openness and approach to us is what we’ll always remember.  He was overly thankful in person and followed up with both emails and tweets thanking us for our help. Not to mention, every single person that retweeted the press coverage got a thank you from Dwolla.

We agreed to test out the Dwolla site in beta version. We like what we see folks. Get your Dwolla on here.

Last week we received a request asking for permission to use the Lessing-Flynn logo on their site. Very cool. Then we get a tweet from @thedwolla:

@AdMavericks You are now listed! http://bit.ly/8V069g – Thank you for the support!

Killer.

First class professionalism, and a brand identity that suggests there are people who care behind the catchy new brand’s name. Plus, Lessing-Flynn is in some great company with some of the other folks who have helped Dwolla along the way. Names the social media community in Central Iowa are pretty familiar with: Des Moines Social Club, Power Surge, Lava Row, Catchfire Media, Technology Association of Iowa, Blue Compass Interactive, Silicon Prairie News, DM Evolve, Foundry Coworking, Measured Intentions and many more.

And if you owe me any money or are feeling generous, I accept payments through Dwolla. Congrats to Dwolla on a strong start!

I just love the name, but I see your point too. It is great they were willing to listen and soak it all up like a sponge.

I read about Dwolla and they may have something here that will be a huge benefit to businesses if they sign on. Will be looking forward to seeing how they do in the months ahead.
