“I finally caught that tail I’ve been chasing.” Yes, that’s what your dog will tweet about if you purchase Mattel’s newest innovation. According to Mattel’s director of Marketing, Susan Russo “this capitalizes on two popular trends – the use of social media and real time communication, as well as peoples’ extreme love for their dogs.”
The announcement of the new product is fresh out of the oven, but you won’t be able to purchase “Puppy Tweets” until fall 2010 at $29.99 each. How does it work? The plastic sensor adorns your dogs collar and has a motion and sound sensor. You connect it via its USB receiver to your computer. After you create a twitter account for “Fluffy” the tweeting will begin dependent upon her activity. So if she’s lazy, sleepy and king of the couch expect a tweet like “Somedays it feels like my paw is permanently on the snooze button!”
I have a crew of four Australian Shepherds, I love my dogs and have had them in my life before my kids. Dogs are the best companion, all you have to do is provide them a cozy shelter, attention, food and toys and what do you get back? Unconditional love, affection and no talking back! But I draw the line here. I don’t want to know what they are doing during the day while I’m at work. I don’t keep that close of tab on my husband, let alone my dogs! Obviously it’s clear what I think about Puppy Tweet. How about you? Will you be purchasing Puppy Tweet this fall? Tell us.

Will they follow me or RT my Tweets? They have to bring value to my relationship for me to truly consider them on my feed.
EXACTLY. So now the faithful owner is going to respond on behalf of their dog??? This has gone to the dogs!!!! Thanks for the read.
What about a follow strategy for your dogs? Who are the dog influencers? Is there an @rintin or an @lassie?
for the love of god! I guess Hartz, Eukanuba and Purina are all “EARS.”
At first I thought it was ridiculous but then I remembered I already follow two cats on Twitter and have a canine “friend” named Jezebel on Facebook. So, bring it on. (Though I hope they don’t take over and drive me to Foursquare.)
thanks for the read.
Twitter should offer something for everyone, we’re so over “relevance”. We offer our readers perspective through our round googly eyes. Looking forward to getting outfitted with new Tweet collar!
For other great animal handles check out: @Weezerthedog & @common_squirrel.
hmmmm, I read two “horse” blogs & several other “critters” that guest post at other blogs I read. Would twitter be all that different?
Its amazing, but Americans have humanized ALL animals. And that really scares me.
But, its still cute & funny if you’re committed to remaining an omnivore.
Thanks for the reads GreenRanching Mom and @2IowaPuglets. Keep it real and relevant! Peace.
My dad is all excited about this technology and actually broke the news to me a few weeks back. Yes, my dad is officially more advanced in canine twitter tech than me. Anyway, got to make a plug for @ArlotheCorgi on Twitter. He doesn’t tweet often, but when he does it’s gold.
Big ups to the @common_squirrel mention earlier – probably Craig Newmark’s greatest achievement other than that small Craigslist thing.
OMG – you mean to tell me I’m going to follow a Corgi? (I have a soft spot for three breeds – Aussies, Corgis and Scotties)
I am trying to come up with something as cool as what is happening with @common_squirrel but @bottlenosedolphin tweeting “EEK” doesn’t have the same charm.
Bellana! Gotta talk to someone over there at LF about the ability to post pics! (unless there is a way and I can’t figure it out!) Just wanted to share with you my Mini Aussie-Riley. I love me some Aussies!
In reference to your post…good one! I’m not to sure that I want to know when my pooch is missing me…or sad cause she’s stuck in the kennel…or know when she’s chewing on my curtains! UGH!
thanks for the info!
Katie
I’m embarrassed to admit I would call home from work and leave a message on the answering machine just to remind my dog to stay out of the garbage. A direct message feature would be a good enhancement for this doggie technology!!!!!
Just recently I have looked around in search of a little more knowledge on Eukanuba. Can it be really that the main ingredient is made from soya? Clearly there would be additional ingredients like meat included, but that doesn’t sound like a good base.
