During the 3rd quarter of the Super Bowl, 106.5 million people if still engaged saw the Google commercial. And if you’ve noticed, you haven’t seen many, if any Google T.V. commercials. Owning 66% market share Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt has been quoted that Google has earned its dominant market share by the quality of searches, not by advertising.
So why advertise now? Maybe it’s because a new competitor has entered the market in the past nine months. Ever heard of Bing? This is the search engine Microsoft launched last summer with over a $100 million dollar advertising campaign. I’ll admit I’ve seen Bing commercials and never tried the search engine, maybe I’ll check it out later today (doubtful). Interestingly enough, Google’s Schmidt, tweeted on Saturday “hell has indeed frozen over,” eluding to the fact that followers needed to play close attention to ads in the third quarter. After the game aired, Schmidt wrote on the Google blog that their T.V. spot was a result of wanting to share a highly popular YouTube video with a wider audience. Here’s the spot that ran on Sunday called, “Parisian Love.”
Overall, let’s give a golf clap to Google for integrating social media tactics with traditional media tactics. Stop and think about your twitter strategy to tease your followers about your newest product release, retail promotion or big announcement. Throw your followers a bone. Put your personality out on your YouTube channel, share your story to your local T.V. market or print audience, connect your customer to your website and share the rest of your story on your blog. Connect the dots!

And they did direct mail too! Google, indeed has gone traditional. Good for them!
thanks for the read. Didn't know that, good to know.
And Bing is a Microsoft product-so we know it is safer to use-no chance of a virus or trojan hose getting into-err-oh-wait, They ARE the home of all those things.
Never mind-go on about your business. Nothing to see here. Move along!
Come on, Brady, you should post the link to your blog site about Google doing direct mail. Don't you think!? : )
